When a global pandemic shuts Hong Kong’s borders, hundreds of thousands of foreign domestic workers are stranded far from home.  Among them is Sonia, a strong-willed Indonesian domestic worker whose world is shattered when she learns that her mother has died. Unable to return home, she takes it upon herself to organize the funeral from afar, piecing together a final farewell through a livestream thousands of miles away.
But on the day of the service, Mrs. Chan, the elderly woman Sonia cares for, wanders out alone into the city, driven by her own fading memory and a desperate longing for her daughter. Forced to choose between her mother’s final farewell and the woman who depends on her, Sonia leaves the video call behind and races through the city to find Mrs. Chan.

By the time she finds Mrs. Chan, the funeral is over. Grief hits her all at once, and Sonia finally breaks. Yet in that moment, Mrs. Chan offers her the tenderness she has been denied, holding her as though she were her own daughter. In the aftermath of loss, the two women discover an unlikely but deeply human bond, finding in each other a fragile, fleeting sense of home.
