While other cities stop using batteries, Harbor City promotes the "Battery Project," claiming drinking battery water boosts immunity and memory. Five years later, 80% of citizens have joined.
70 year old Lan and her gifted 17 year old grandson, Tse Chun, live together. To surprise him, Lan saves up to buy a one year plan. Soon after, Tse Chun collapses during drama practice. The doctor prescribes expensive "battery medicine" for his brain. To afford it, Lan tries to cancel the plan but is stopped, forcing her to halve the dosage.
Tse Chun's memory worsens, but he notices he feels better after missing a dose. Ultimately, he forgets his lines and loses the competition. Suddenly, the TV announces the government will open the "Battery River" for free use. Shocked, Lan calls customer service, but the line remains busy...
