Artist's Statement
A short film about fractured memories and of a territory remembered, dreamt, forgotten and re-lived. Through this hypnotising film, viewers travel through the deep subconscious of a young man in his 20s, who longs for his past as his mind travels through the lush green fields of an unnamed island in rural Goa. As the train passes through the territories that made him who he is, he grieves for someone close to him that he lost. The ghosts of his past continue to occupy his ancestral home as he takes a spiritual journey into the depths of his psyche, that evoke memories, traumas and fears that he may or may not be able to face
Juror's Comment
Using poetic imagery, this work shows a man returning to his beloved hometown in his dream. The visual composition and the use of light and shadow are ingenious, giving the work a distinctive mood. (Li Ya-mei)
