The director spent her childhood living apart from her family and knew very little about its history. This changed when she graduated from University and decided to face her parents with her camera, in search of answers to questions about her past.
Artist's Statment
Why did I make a documentary about my own family?
I keep asking myself this question. The more I ask, the more I realise I don’t know how to answer this question.
I pre-set so many hypothetical expectations on myself that I could barely express myself properly. I couldn’t even articulate to my family why and what I was filming or looking for. I just instinctively picked up the camera and started filming them, in the hope of finding myself through their eyes.
