There is an old man who went through the Cultural Revolution, known as a period of highest in spirit and the lowest in material being. One day, he takes out all his life savings and goes to a restaurant. He slowly eats every single bill of his money, and the old man dies. The waiters of the restaurant cut open the old man and take all his undigested money. They even call the old man’s son to purchase back the body.

Transmigration

Wandering around – is it a dream, or a tribute to the director’s mother who brought him up single-handedly? Releasing her soul from the weary body? Relaxing herself for once? A single mother who works her tail off during the day can only venture out at night in her dream. With his primary interest being in concept projection, the whole production itself journeys through time (1996-1998), place and among strangers.

Xiao Shan Going Home

Xiao Shan, a temporary worker has just been fired by his boss. Deciding to leave Beijing and return to his home in Anyang, he goes to see a series of people from his hometown who have also been living in Beijing but no one wants to go back with him. Dispirited and confused, he searches out one after another of his old friends who are still in Beijing. Finally he leaves his wild long hair at a roadside barber stand as his offering to Beijing.
