One day I asked my aunts and uncles about my grandpa while they were playing mahjong. What does he look like? Where did he come from? How was his childhood? What had he been through? The stories they told me are too difficult to imagine. Are those all real? Who is he?
Artist’s Statement
The intimacy and distance exist at the same time when I think about my grandpa. And it is also how I feel about the history of Taiwan. Making this film is like playing a puzzle. I collected those memories from my aunts and uncles, and rebuilt them through this film to try to know who my grandpa is, and also who I am.
