This film looks at the difficulties faced by foreign fishers from Southeast Asia. Taking the Labor Standards Act as the basis, the film examines how people including fishers in different positions, human rights organisations, ship captains, and agents view the current labour situation within the fishing industry.
Artist’s Statement
As a female whose mother is an ethnic Chinese in Indonesia, the director of this film is especially concerned with the conditions of migrant workers, foreign spouses and gender issues. In this film, the director turns her attention to the often-neglected subject of migrant fishermen in the hopes that more people will pay attention to the conditions of foreign workers in the fishing industry and beyond.
