Aloneness is not the same as being lonely. Lying beneath the white sheets, the 11 holds the tale of forbidden love, unconditional love, in dreams and in reality, always together forever apart. Tracing and arresting a dance couple’s shadows, encountering the dance, trekking the terrains of their adventures. Lying motionless in 11, the lovers listen, whisper, even at the dullest moments, words of love, conversations continue to flow, laughter fills the ward.
Artist’s Statement
Ward 11 is an experimental journey for three of us to dance between life and death, yin and yang. It is an essay film to explore the body and mind, and the interaction between the past and the present by dance. Non-linear narrative is presented by filming and editing techniques. By moving the stage into our daily life, we can find the movement of dance in the repetitive and unstable life. The production took nearly two years, luckily we did not give up halfway and finally kept a record of the memory at the end of life, painful but also precious. We will miss Fook forever. Let’s live better and keep dancing!
