In 1994, the Hong Kong government suddenly launched an initiative to tear down "rooftop dwellings", even though it had actually accepted their existance for many years. The Housing Authority regarded them as private property and denied owners the opportunity to apply for public housing. Now the government has ordered these 40,000 dwellings to be removed, without offering fair resettlement terms for the residents who had moved in after 1982. Video Power recorded the negotiations before some of these houses were torn down in Mongkok.

The word “director” is becoming more prestigious and romanticised. Knowing that someone has made some sort of movies, we would like to greet him/ her “Director!” or ask “When can I star in your movie?” It is pretty fun indeed. However, if taking it seriously, why do I make movies (create)?

A student realizes everything changes in the classroom after woken up: the school is not the same school he knows. Not only that, his fellow students all become ghosts, appearing and vanishing at will. Running away from the ghosts, he remembers what has happened and finds out the truth behind.

It is over between ‘her’ and ‘him’, and she soon starts over with another ‘him’. It turns out ‘he’ has another ‘her’... It starts, it ends, it starts all over again... It is not just you and me in a relationship, there is another s/he involved... So anyone can be the third party.

People easily lose their passion for their dreams in the age of repression. On the other hand, salmons who live in the wild would swim upstream for their children fearlessly.

A and B competed in mushroom-growing, which drew a large audience. A girl started distributing flowers to the crowd, so people would know that other than mushrooms, there were also flowers to contemplate. What she did anger A and B, who drove the girl away in joint effort and then led the mass in growing mushrooms. The mushrooms grew and grew until it covered the sky completely, making the world a dark place. Only then did the mass realize that they had made a mistake too grave to correct.

A man who used to have big dreams gradually loses himself amidst the constantly changing and developing cityscape, and gives up on painting. When he returns to a village still untouched by development, he is forced to confront his destiny and lost dreams…

I saw a very special tree in a park one day. The tree looks just stunning and it moves my heart. When the wind blows, its expressive foliage waves like it is breathing and alive. I go back to visit the tree again and again, like visiting a friend.

There are many things we cannot choose in life. One thing for sure is, no one can choose their parents. You have to learn to love them before getting to know them.

The film presents a familiar place from the perspectives of three persons who are respectively born blind, mute and deaf. Representing the old, middle-aged and young, they share their life experience with the audience, and lead them to a brave new world of cinematic experience.

Through representing the odd special effect of Hong Kong streets and Chinese 9 square calligraphy paper, to show how “very fantastic” of the Hong Kong pre-war building and how importance to reserve Hong Kong own culture to be our heritage.

This film introduces the Ng and the Yung families, both long-term residents of Hong Kong public housing. After living 27 years in a one room flat the Ng family will soon move to a new Homeownership flat. They explain how their home has evolved over the years and how they cope with the everyday problems of high-density living. After 14 years of residency, the Yung family are happy in the home they have created, but what is it that makes a space a home?

The 3rd ifva Awards - Documentary Category Gold Award

Local street musician Maurice Chan takes us on a journey back to his birthplace, the Walled City of Kowloon, with on-camera interviews with former residents and archive footage. It also explores issues related to life in modern Hong Kong and the 1997 handover.

There is an old man who went through the Cultural Revolution, known as a period of highest in spirit and the lowest in material being. One day, he takes out all his life savings and goes to a restaurant. He slowly eats every single bill of his money, and the old man dies. The waiters of the restaurant cut open the old man and take all his undigested money. They even call the old man’s son to purchase back the body.

Wandering around - is it a dream, or a tribute to the director’s mother who brought him up single-handedly? Releasing her soul from the weary body? Relaxing herself for once? A single mother who works her tail off during the day can only venture out at night in her dream. With his primary interest being in concept projection, the whole production itself journeys through time (1996-1998), place and among strangers.

Under the setting sun, the protagonist picks up a paper aeroplane on the way home from school, and the story starts from there.

It was September in New York City with a cheating husband. a lonely wife. a hesitant mistress. a furious lover. plus an oblivious, unemployed young man. One day, their fates were hopelessly intertwined into a cobweb of anger, obsession, melancholy, and eventually murder. In the end, everybody lost in the cruel game called destiny.

Find a place to look around. Suddenly everything surrounds me changing - in my mind. I am confused but, not very happy, not very sad. Things seem to be growing but nothing has changed. I search all around and I am confused again. Keep going, all things are so calm...

Xiao Shan, a temporary worker has just been fired by his boss. Deciding to leave Beijing and return to his home in Anyang, he goes to see a series of people from his hometown who have also been living in Beijing but no one wants to go back with him. Dispirited and confused, he searches out one after another of his old friends who are still in Beijing. Finally he leaves his wild long hair at a roadside barber stand as his offering to Beijing.

 At the age of electronic gadgets, people get lost in the cyber media. They place their trust in objects around them but pull away from human beings at the same time. She is indulged in water tab to an extent that she’d rather trade the whole world for the tab.

Once upon a time, Big Eye discovers a hole in the sky. He is curious about what lies behind this hole, but most people just do not care. Someone says it is a dangerous place. Someone says it is where God lives. Someone says it is a wonderland. Eventually Big Eye decides to go to this mysterious place to find the real answer...

Nightmare

How to escape the world in which imaginations are being prohibited?

The main character has morbid fear of cockroaches. Whenever he sees them, he is thrown into agony and has to flee. This time, facing again his greatest feat, he vows to overcome it. However, in his inner battle to free himself, he stumbles against a wall: his runaway imagination.

Creation of the world took GOD six days. In the 7th day, Adam and Eve were given birth to live in a paradise on earth however it did not end there. So in the 8th day, GOD created LOVE to salvage the humanity

The media who discloses someone’s privacy will be condemned, but how are we going to deal with the matter if someone chooses to expose his or her own privacy? Wong, a young author of 25, was alone on her bed at midnight. In her own little secret place, she tried to record all her private life in front of a digital camera. This was an attempt to challenge the norm of morality. Without reservation, Wong presented her secret life to all of us. What was projected on the screen was apparently her morbid state.

Mother

This short was made for the school’s Creative Week. It reflects my deep understanding of gay men, and expresses their innermost struggles and conflicts.

Old Granny spends most of the time by herself even she has her own children. The only connection among members of this family seems to be the annual grave sweeping ceremony.

“Angry” is a little muddy figure created, out of the alien and larger-than his-life’s world, he feels lonely and angry all the time. But one day he encounters with “Love”, who changes his entire muddy life.

Two explorers with different special abilities arrived at an unknown planet for their adventure. They found a strange transport machine and brought it along to meet the monster.

Exchanging gift is a small issue; however, the poor little girl has to work hard to prepare for that. Eventually she decides to collect recycling papers in the street. It is sad and heartbreaking. There is neither stunning scene nor sensational plot. The rights and wrongs, warm and cold of the world are narrated simply from the little girl’s point of view.

A man believes that the hospital staff is responsible for his father’s death; a woman is accused of causing the death of someone else’s father; the rest proclaim their innocence. All hold onto proofs that justify their reasoning, but no one can offer a complete picture!

Grandpa and granddaughter from Tsoi Yuen Village travel to the city, trying hard to preserve collective memories that are quickly eroding away. They stroll alongside the ex-Legislative Council building, pondering upon what used to be the Star Ferry and Queen’s Pier.
