The Maze of Identity

Chan Pak Yin

Hong Kong / Col / 5'54"/ In Cantonese with no subtitles

Koo is worried after knowing his target of bullying Lei Chin Tung goes missing with no reason. Therefore he takes Ning along to looking for him after class. During the search, Koo realises his feeling for Lei Chin Tung is not as pure as it seems.

Artist's Statement
The Maze of Identity, four hundred, reckless and unscrupulous. Youth is like running fearlessly without caring about the consequence. We believe we could change the future, but when it really comes along, there is nothing we could do. Will Koo and Ning have a broader view of the sky towards the end of the story?
Juror's Comment
Like a 2023 version of Cruel Story of Youth. The acting of the actors is natural and convincing. The departures and returns of this generation is so much more than any old fashioned love story. The relationship between the two actresses and the narrative seems a bit jumpy, the audience may find it confusing. But as an viewer, so I really need to figure it out? The answer seems obvious. This is an era of subtext. (Eric Poon)
