High school student Faye leads a lonesome life, being bullied at school and with her family living abroad. She keeps a distance from others, including her classmate whom she secretly admires. Yearning for love and desperate to break away from her mundane life, Faye becomes a part-time girlfriend. Navigating the tumultuous journey of love, Faye eventually loses herself.
Artist's Statement
In the process of being a part-time girlfriend, Faye's selfconsciousness as a woman is constantly repressed. To work against her on-going self-doubt, she gives in complete, only to be taken advantage of instead. As she tugs and pushes among reality, virtuality and illusion, she finally sacrifices her innocence.
Juror's Comment
Depicting the unsettling fragility of a lonesome girl, with an highlight on her yearning for intimacy but is dragged into the blackhole of emotions. From the long-repressed sentiments, to tearing down the illusion with her own hands after her hope was shattered, the director's calm decision on images and the use of sound can be observed.
