Hong Kong animation has attracted much attention in the recent decade. Besides an highly anticipated animation feature project, indie shorts that deal with different subject matters, emerging collaborations with commercial and music sectors, many outstanding works have also gained their applause on various international stages. The industry is blooming and promising: funds and subsidies are more open to animation works; multiple higher education institutes contribute to nurturing up-and-coming animators; number of productions has increased significantly, across genres and motifs; production crews have grown to become more structured. One can’t help but to expect one day in the near future Hong Kong animation could become a genre of one’s own.

“Hong Kong Animators, Assemble!” Roundtable invites Hong Kong animators from different generations to gather for this one-of-a-kind panel discussion. By revisiting the milestones of the industry, they will look into the spectrum of Hong Kong animation and attempt to shed light on the possibile creative patterns and development in the near future, and pave the boulevard for Hong Kong animation.
