It's the harvest season. A village boy is riding his motorcycle around for opportunities to work, but all he could get was neglect or rejection. Finally, when he gets the chance for a job, he realises that he has forgotten the tool. Now he must go and fetch it back.
“Although in my hometown, I live like an outsider.”
The film is inspired by the director’s own living experience and realisation. Comparing with his other works that dwell on certain themes, Wild Tides carries a much lighter touch. The film functions like an adjective in language. Instead of facts or phenomena, it describes a state or feeling – the longing for a sense of belonging and recognition – which is the concern of the director and the core element of the story. I hope to bring forward reflection on the relationships between oneself and one’s hometown and living environment.
