If you live or study in Wan Chai for any length of time, you would have witnessed the many changes this community has experienced over the years. Don’t you want to record a piece of Wan Chai culture with a camera for posterity?

Wan Chai Imagery scheme offers you the chance to achieve this!

•  Learn about filmmaking techniques from industry professionals and put them into practice;
•  Showcase aspects of Wan Chai culture through images you captured;
•  Show your finished films to the public.

About “Wan Chai Imagery”

Wan Chai Imagery is co-organised by the Cultural and Leisure Services Committee of Wan Chai District Council and the Hong Kong Arts Centre. The aim of the programme is to teach filmmaking technique to local and ethnic minority young people and allow them to explore various stories both new and old in Wan Chai, and finally use their cameras to express these stories. Three short films related to the Wan Chai community will be completed and screened to the public. Both local and ethnic minority young people between the ages of 14 and 20 with an interest and passion for filmmaking are welcome!

Vincent Chui

Graduated from Communications Arts Department of Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles. Started his career in Hong Kong Broadcast Television Company. He’s been working in the independent field since 1993. Founded Ying E Chi, a Hong Kong Independent Film Collective, with the fellow independent filmmakers to promote and distribute their films in the 1997. Made his first feature Leaving in Sorrow in 2001. The second feature Fear of Intimacy was selected in competition category in Moscow International Film Festival, 2004 and the closing film of Taipei Film festival. He had made Love is Elsewhere and Three Narrow Gates in 2008. He’s been also working in different field in the film/TV and teaching in various university in recent years. Has just finished his new film A Fig in Macau.

Tammy Cheung was born in Shanghai in 1958 and moved to Hong Kong when she was three. She studied Sociology at a local college and Film Studies at Montreal’s Concordia University.

In 1986, she founded the Chinese International Film Festival in Montreal and held the position of director of the Festival between 1986 and 1992. After moving back Hong Kong in 1994, she was involved in commercial film production, film criticism, teaching and translation.

After years of anticipation, Cheung made her directorial debut in 1999. Her works include Invisible Women (1999), Secondary School (2002), Rice Distribution (2002), Moving (2003), War (2003), July (2004) , Speaking Up (2005), Village Middle School (2006) , Speaking Up 2 (2007) , Election (2008) & After the Quake (2011).

Joseph Wu

Labelized as one of the post 80s. Graduating from City University of Hong Kong with a major in Cinematic Art. Passionate about making movies with a South Asian theme. Works including 5 minutes, The waterside, and Shabnum, the dew. Currently making a living through scriptwriting, shooting ads, visual designs, teaching, and post-production.

崔允信

毕业于美国洛杉矶Loyola Marymount University电影系，回港后曾于电视台及电影公司工作，1993年开始参与独立制作，曾多次获得香港独立短片及录像比赛奖项，1997年与其他独立电影工作者组成影意志，宣传及发行香港独立制作，同年与许鞍华导演合导纪录片《去日苦多》，于2001年完成其首部长片《忧忧愁愁的走了》，获邀参加多个国际影展，电影作品《追踪眼前人》，为2004年台北电影节闭幕电影及莫斯科国际电影节竞赛电影。2008年完成《爱情万岁》和独立电影 《三条窄路》。近年参与不同型式的工业及独立的电影制作，亦于不同大学出任教职，刚于澳门完成最新电影《无花果》。

张虹

上海出生，香港长大，分别在香港及加拿大修读社会学和电影。早年当过老师，其后在满地可筹办电影节。2005年起创办非牟利机构「釆风电影」幷担任艺术总监，机构以推广纪录片为宗旨，过去多年一直举办放映、课程及协助新进导演创作纪录片。釆风电影08年起每年举办的「华语纪录片节」，已成为两岸四地的文化盛事，每年观众人数倍增。

张虹1999年开始拍摄纪录片，第一部作品为《看不见的女人》。2002年完成《中学》及《平安米》，2003年摄制记述贫穷老人处境的《搬屋》，记录了2003七一大游行的《七月》，另外同年制作了表达对战争感受的短片《小孩不懂怕》。2005年完成的作品《问》，采用访问方式，邀请了六十位来自各阶层的人士发表他们对香港民生、政制问题的意见。2006年完成讲述大陆农村学校生活的《农村初中》。2007年完成《问-大陆小学》，访问近三十位大陆小学生，他们对学校、家庭、性别及国家的看法。2008年完成记录04年立法会选举过程的《选举》。2011年完成讲述四川地震后，灾民重建家园的《新家园》。

《平安米》获得2002年独立短片及录像比赛公开组金奖及大奖。其他纪录片曾在阿姆斯特丹、慕尼黑、多伦多、韩国、台北、新加坡及中国大陆多个电影节参展。

胡康伦

被标签为「八十后」的其中一员。毕业于香港城市大学创意媒体学院，主修电影艺术。偏爱南亚主题，作品有《5 minutes》、《The waterside》 和《Shabnum, the dew》。靠写剧本、拍广告、平面设计、网页设计、教学、后期制作为生。
