An Animated World Creator — Latvia Puppet Animation
If you have had enough of big budget Hollywood animation, or
have seen and liked the guileless simplicity of Finnish puppet animation
Moomin and Midsummer Madness , then you must not miss out on this
programme of outstanding and award-winning animation from Eastern
Europe!
From Latvia come three animators filled with heart-warming
family fun. In Janis CIMERMANIS' The Bear is Coming (2008/ 16') Mr. Bear
is forced to leave his home, which is threatened by global warming, to
look for food and lodging among humans, causing much alarm. In Home
Hole Horrors (Nils SKAPĀNS/ 1999/ 6' 30"), a family of raccoons is angry
at the woodpecker for pecking a hole in the tree they call home, but it turns out that the real trouble makers are not the birds but worms. In Up
and Down (Dace RĪDŪZE / 2000/ 6'), strange things are happening to the
carrots in the garden, and Tiger and his friend the black bird try to get
to the bottom of it. Smile, My Friend! (Dace RĪDŪZE/ 2000/ 11') is about
another mystery case: Beaver's teeth have been stolen, and Detective Owl
must try to find out who did it. In Wild Welcome (Nils SKAPĀNS/ 1999/
6' 30") a family of city cats visit their tiger relatives in the country, and
overstay their welcome. In Morning! (Nils SKAPĀNS/ 1996/ 5') another
tiger finds that his day is ruined by a black feathered friend. The young
protagonist in The Firefly (Dace RĪDŪZE/ 2002/ 11' 54") is in trouble
because he cannot get his light to shine as brightly as the others.
