The Wonderful Debut Films of Japanese Independent Animation Directors
Young vibrant creators rocked the anime world! Curated by
Professor Mitsuko OKAMOTO from the Tokyo University of the Arts, who
used to be a TV programme host, the chief producer of NHK's popular
BS2 programme Digital Stadium, and also the Executive Producer of
Digital Art Festival Tokyo for three consecutive years, this programme
features four animation shorts by the new talents in Japan. Atsuya
UKI demonstrates his extraordinary visual power in Cencoroll (27'/ in
Japanese with English subtitles), a story about a monster battle in a
small town. Dragon UNO creates 3D effects with the Poser software
in Taropicana (30'/ in Japanese with English subtitles), making his
characters sing and dance in a heavenly beautiful way. Tayuta MIKAGE's
Beyond the Rail Tracks (11' 10"/ in Japanese with English subtitles)
and Yasuhiro YOSHIURA's Pale Cocoon (23'/ in Japanese with English
subtitles) take a different path and play with time travel and the past,
both showing their ambition in sci-fi storytelling.
